The Oklahoman: Pedestrian Bridge over Northwest Expressway soon to be reality
Steve Lackmeyer
Construction is set to start this winter on a $3 million pedestrian bridge that will create a safe passage at Northwest Expressway and Wilshire Boulevard for users of the Oklahoma City Trails.
The bridge, spanning 130 feet over the six-lane expressway, includes construction of a trail that will connect to the existing Hefner-Overholser Trail near Canal Road and MacArthur Boulevard and existing bike lanes on Wilshire south of the expressway. The bridge includes Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant ramps and is designed with a lit chevron on top of the span.
The stretch of Northwest Expressway at Wilshire has an average daily vehicle count topping 46,000. The bridge is set to open by mid-2021.
